Album Promo Magazine Advertisement - Alex
Creating the advertisement promo for our band's album challenged our creativity and skills on Adobe Photoshop; we wanted to implement the vibrant colour schemes from retro 80's music album covers. The implementation of star ratings from very popular music magazine and companies help show the audience the publicity and attention it has gained for our debut album, thus creating professionalism in our work. The elongation of the band's name 'Funky Fros' contrasts to the titles and heading that many TV shows and other retro 80's artwork included. Furthermore, the addition of a shadow effect to the title 'Blue Cherry' displays a neon looking sign that was very popular for advertising shops on the streets such as New York. Due to the limitation in skill and technique in Adobe Photoshop we had to improvise and try to dictate how we can express our use of different tools and effects offered by Photoshop such as the shadow-like effect with the 'band name' and 'album name'.
Creating this effect is easily manipulated by the structure of layering as seen in the image above. To precisely position the copy of the text we simply the arrow keys on the keyboard to move slightly the pixels and set a specific position that we was happy with, thus creating the effect of shadows and displaying our creative intentions for the album promo advertisement and band image.
Below are some funk album covers that gave us inspiration and offered a goal/overall atmosphere to help us with the poster, such album covers include funk artists such as Curtis Mayfield and funk music collection mixes and their art:
