Location Change & Problems - Sam & Alex

Image
We planned to start our filming on Friday the 24th of November but we ran into some issues. We asked some of our friends to come round to Sams house to help us video and be a part of it but a lot of them had to cancel due to their own personal commitments so we ended up with not enough people to do the video. Also, since it starts to get dark a lot earlier we had a limited time to do our filming outside and due to the bad weather that day we weren't able to do what we planned. This has now inspired us to change our music video but keep the same song. We discussed our options of what we could do and instead of planning to do the same video a different day we thought that it would be good to use the green-screen room in our school and use that to create our music video. We then researched some music videos that we were interested in and we were inspired by the song 'RAF' by ASAP MOB featuring ASAP ROCKY, Quavo and PlayBoy Carti. We thought that the use of green-screen in ...

Merchandise - Alex

Image
The images below highlight the creation of our band's merchandise; the two items we have created are a polo shirt and a t-shirt. We gained inspiration from the skater/luxurious brand OFF-WHITE due to the simplicity in style and artwork printed on their t-shirts. We also wanted to create a modern/past overall style for our merchandise with some influence of the 1980's style such as the implementation of a moustache as they are heavily linked and seen as a trend of the 1980's. Furthermore on our t-shirt design; we decided to create the effect of jail bars with white lines located on the back of the t-shirt to signify the high crime rate due to drugs and other crimes. Some evidence and pictures that gave us inspiration in the production of our merchandise:

Location Images - Sam

The purpose of this post is to highlight our previous intention ideas in the creation and construction of our music video. Prior to our final piece that was mostly shot in the green screen room in our goal was to create a funky party video that displayed many of our friends or actors in this instance and show an infectious disease that infects the characters and they become dancing zombies. However instead of following and creating the stereotype of zombies we wanted to break the codes and conventions whilst adding humor and when a character becomes infected we implement costume such as a fake mustache and a big Afro. However many set backs and consequences occurred whilst recording this due to schedules for the actors, and also the cost of creating this idea of a 'infectious spread of disease'. These are the main reasons why we decided to figure out how we can create a music video that is both enjoyable and not reliant of a budget; this is why we chose to create a colourful a...

Planning - Alex

Image
Due to the alteration and changing of our music video this is planning that was supposed to be implemented for the house party idea that was previously highlighted in a post, but also due to time constraints all planing material was subject to change and planning may not be developed at a higher standard due to this. Due to filming in a house we needed to highlight and thoroughly research the possible dangers and risks that can occur whilst filming, for example we need to carefully write down the different hazards throughout the house such as noise for other neighbors around the filming location and also flammable materials as we are implementing smoke which could trigger the fire alarm too.  The use of a location visit sheet can help us visualise the surroundings and area that we are filming and working in, but also this helps us understand the exits and entrances into the different rooms in the house that we can shoot in different scenes.  As our sixth for...

Record Label - Sam & Alex

Image
The record label we have chosen to go with is 'Polydor Records', we decided to chose this record company because they have signed a lot of similar artists such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix. We also considered some other record labels such as 'Warner Music Group' who were signed by Prince and The Rolling Stones, 'Capitol Records' and were signed by Queen and 'Warner Bros. Records' who were signed by The Beach Boys. These are all similar bands to the one we have chose or they are from around the same time, this is the reason we have decided to sign with this record label. The images below convey some of the album covers of artists that have collaborated with Warner Bros and Polydor Records, however we enjoyed their art and colour variety on their album covers which helps us with the creation of our own and the 1980's theme that we desire:

Feedback on the pitch - Alex

Image
We presented our feedback to the whole class by structuring and showing exactly our intentions that we want to achieve for our music video; to start our presentation we highlighted our ideas about the location and camera shots that we want to include for the beginning of our music video. For ease, we decided to use the whiteboard and displayed our research and planning from our blogger website; the implementation of this is efficient. After we pitched and discussed our goals for our music video to the class we was given feedback from classmates; for example, an idea that someone gave to us was the concept and addition of slow motion camera shots as the actors/characters leave the car which will help create comedy in the introduction to the characters.

Actor Contract - Actor Release Form - Alex

Image
This post highlights the agreement contract that will give out to the actors that will be involved and implemented into our music video, but also any person who is being recorded at any time. The set times that we want the actors to attend is 24th November at 2 pm so that, the reasoning for a early start to filming is that we have to think about and plan the time we have to film with natural daylight as in the winter season we have less time with the sun and other colder conditions. Furthermore our goal is to get every actor to sign the release form so that we have their permission to appropriately film them in our music video. Permitting the security adds to the reliability and overall professionalism that we wanted to illustrate to our actors and audience thus creating a form that highlights our intentions and what exactly we expect but require from our acting production team.

Storyboard - Sam & Alex

Image
The image below highlights the first draft storyboard for the creation of our music video; as this is a first draft towards the storyboard we will need to evaluate and understand that changes may occur during filming, but also towards the final product. The illustrations on the left hand side convey the specific scene and the moment where an event or a certain camera movement/angle will be implemented. Furthermore on the right hand side a "Dialogue-Sound" box is used to create the sounds and timing that we want for the scene such as a car driving sound for the beginning of our music video and also the speech that is being spoken by the different characters.

Prop List - Sam

Image
70's style pop costumes - Sam and Alex. Car - Sam. Afro wigs - Sam and Alex. Disco glasses - Sam and Alex. Fake moustaches - Sam and Alex. Makeup - Sam's sister. The list above is the prop list which shows what we will need to complete our music video. It also tells us who is responsible for getting these items, without it we could easily lose track of what we need and forget some important items. This post will be gradually and consistently updated with new props that may be added in the production of our music video, but also who in our group is responsible for getting and acquiring the props.

Facebook + Instagram - Alex

Image
The images below highlight the different social media platforms that we have created for our target audience and followers. We also created a debut album cover called 'Blue Cherry' in Photoshop by using the layers section and overlaying a scratch mark over a picture we took when we visited my friends gig in the 02 Academy. We believe that the silhouette helped portray a artistic/ mysterious atmosphere to the album cover as people will want to know who the characters on the album are. Furthermore we done this as people will link the protagonists and band members from our music video to the album and a sense of realisation will occur. However we followed a simplicity approach towards the art of our album cover as we realised that most albums are very simple yet effective.

Twitter - Alex

Image
We decided to create our own band twitter and other social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to increase the publicity and ease of access for our audience; but also for people to see our posts and notifications easily, directly to their phones. We will also follow the accounts of the different groups in our class so they can observe our work and process into the production of our music video. Furthermore we will be posting about our upcoming albums and records; this can link in with actual professional band/ artists as they create an account on social media so that their fans and viewers can easily get information about them and their brand.

Audience Profile - Sam

Image
An  audience profile  is a way for us to determine our ideal target market of consumers.  From the results of our questionnaire to discover what target audience we will be looking at, we found that the majority of the audience were aged 10-20 which means we will be looking at a younger target audience which is not what we expected.  Our initial thought was that we were going to be looking at an older target audience because of the song 'Stayin' Alive' popularity in the 70's/80's. This song was voted for the most according to our questionnaire results so this is the song that we will go with.  Most people from our results watch music videos once a day so this tells us that our video will get watched frequently, most of them also watch music videos on their computers so if we posted it on youtube they could have easy access to it but also on other platforms like their phones and TVs.  If we were to charge our audience to download our music video the most ...

Questionnaire Results - Sam

Image
These results show us what kind of target audience we will be looking at however, it's not very specific so we decided to undergo a focus group to help us to get a better idea of our target audience however, it has still helped us to get a basic understanding of what sort of target audience we will be aiming for and what it is that they desire.

Filming/editing inspiration - Alex

Image
As we enjoy the style of the 1970's Cop Shows we correlated and collected that bright and vibrant colours with an interesting narrative is appealing towards our target audience. We believe that the styles of both the Beegee's and 1970's cop shows correspond with each other whilst linking with the final product that we want to create. The editing aspect of our intentions is very easy such as introducing the characters with their names; we can easily use the software Sony Vegas to edit on a text box on the top layer of the video. Moreover we will apply filters and adjustments that will overlay our video as we want to create the vintage/old looking design such as the TV show 'Chips'.

Treatment - Sam

Image
Bee Gees Background: Their music genre which they performed in was Pop, Soul, Disco, Rock and Soft Rock. They were first discovered in 1958 and they were a top band right up to 2003 where they disappeared for a short while until becoming big again in 2009 up until 2012. The three artists in the band were brothers who were Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb. Barry was born on the 1st of September 1946 which makes him the oldest out of the three brothers, whereas the other two were twins born on the 22nd of December 1949 sadly, Robin and Maurice, the twins, passed away in 2012 (Robin) and 2003 (Maurice). We decided that we wanted to use an old, funky song and 'Stayin' Alive' was one of the first ideas that we thought of along with 'Superstition' and 'Livin' On A Prayer'. What made us choose this song over the others was we liked the beat to the introduction of the song which is what we were looking for.

Musical Influences - Alex

Image
For the production and creation of our music video we decided what artists and bands influenced us in what overall atmosphere and outcome we want to create; in this instance The Bee Gee's was the main inspiration that we had when it came for the costumes and the intentions we want to implement into our music video. Whilst researching and studying The Bee Gee's our understanding in the 1970's - 1980's grew and we became more knowledgeable in the characterisation and body language that we will need to incorporate into our music video, the swagger and bouncy movements in The Bee Gee's Stayin' Alive Music video help us visualise how we should move and travel whilst recording our own music video. However as we use some aspects from 'Stayin' Alive' we also wanted to involve our own creative ideas such as having a stronger narrative and story-line meaning for our target audience to easily understand and are interested in watching. On the other hand our ...
